Thank you to those people who are following my blog. I hope you are enjoying it.

Today I am going to tell you about my dog, Ava.  She is a German Short Haired Pointer and will be 1 year old on Feb 10.  She was one of a litter of 9 to Cleo who is my youngest daughter’s dog.  My daughter and her partner adopted Cleo and then found out she was already pregnant.  As soon as I saw the photos of the puppies, I knew I wanted one of the little girls; they were so cute.  Ava is the third from the right in this photo with some of her siblings.  All of the puppies found homes and my daughter kept one of the boys as well as Cleo.

I finally got to go and pick her up in June when she was 4 months old, as my daughter lives interstate.  Ava travelled well on the plane trip back to Victoria, and then in the car for the 3 hour drive from the airport to home.  She settled in fairly quickly, with the expected crying at night only lasting a week or so.   She is an intelligent dog with lots and lots of energy.  She loves to play, especially if you chase her around the yard, or throw a ball or other toy for her to fetch.  She has learnt some basic commands and is quite good on her leash when out for a walk, which she also loves.  One of my other daughters lives close by and is my puppy sitter when my partner and I have to work on the same days.  This is usually 2 or 3 days per week.  Ava enjoys going to my daughter’s as she has a very large yard and she also has 2 young children who love Ava to bits and are happy to give her plenty of attention and play time.  If at anytime we have to leave Ava at home alone, I try to ensure she has plenty of toys to keep her amused, and a large bone to keep her happy.  But sometimes boredom sets in and the mischief begins.  And by mischief I mean destruction.  The photos below were taken after a day spent at home last week while my partner and I travelled to Melbourne to drop my stepdaughter at the airport.  Oh NO!!!!!!

But she is also affectionate; she loves to sit and have cuddles with my partner and I, and sleeps contentedly on her blanket on the couch.  She gets very excited when she sees or hears us coming in from work and follows us from room to room when we are home.

She is good company when I am home alone; apart from tapping her paw on the laptop when I am trying to work, or trying to drag my hand away from the mouse to scratch her chest.  She drops her toys in my lap, looking for a game of fetch.  When I talk to her, she tilts her head to one side and gives me a quizzical look. Her mad behaviour at times makes us laugh.  She is, after all, just a puppy; as she gets older she will settle down and learn to behave better.

Do you share your life and your home with a furry friend?  Are they mischief makers like Ava?  Could you imagine your life without them?

Enjoy your weekend.  Rest, relax and rejuvenate.

We can’t have dogs because of my son’s allergies. 😦 My sister is also allergic, so we couldn’t have pets growing up. I always said that when I grew up I would have lots of pets. I gues things don’t always turn out the way we plan.
